Lakehead advances to ACHA National Championship
In their first full membership year in ACHA, the Lakehead University Thunderwolves are heading to the ACHA DII National Championship at the Ice Haus Arena at noon on Sunday after defeating the Northern Michigan University Wildcats 6-1 in semi-final action. They will play the winner of North Dakota State University and Minot State University. Lakehead was led by Michelle Carlson with 2 goals. Azia Vass and Sarah Dodic each picked up 3 assists. Strong play by Megan Joseph-Seeley in the net sealed the win.

Congratulations Thunderwolves! The wolves have just received the official rankings to finish off the regular season and they have been ranked #1 in the west! They will be heading to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the ACHA National Tournament from March 15th-19th!

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Womens hockey club completed a 3 game sweep of the Assiniboine College Cougars in ACHA D2 play this past weekend. After opening the series with a 4-2 win on Friday the Thunderwolves followed that up with 4-1 and 3-2 wins on Saturday to claim the Lakehead University Challenge Cup. Money that was donated during the series is being given to Northern Breast Cancer. The Thunderwolves hit the road for a pair of league games against University of Wisconsin Lacrosse this weekend. They will conclude ACHA play the following weekend against St. Scholastica and then prepare for the National Championships in Columbus, Ohio March 15-19.

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Womens Hockey club defeated the Assiniboine College Cougars 4-2 in ACHA D2 hockey at FWFN Arena on Friday night. Sarah Dodic opened the scoring for the Thunderwolves in the first period. Early in the second period Melissa Plug added to the lead, only to see the Cougars score mid-period. Goals from Taylor Grice and Liv Carter upped the lead to 4-1. Assiniboine scored late in the period to make it 4-2.Megan Joseph-Seeley shut out the Cougars in the third period to preserve the win. The two teams will battle again at 9AM and game 3 will go at 3PM on Saturday. The winner of the series will claim the Lakehead University Challenge Cup trophy.

Updated Ranking! One more ranking to go to see if the Thunderwolves qualify for Nationals! To be eligible for Nationals teams have to rank 6th or higher in their region.

The Toppers Midget A Queens defeated the Lakehead University Thunderwolves 3-1 in Womens exhibition hockey on Tuesday at Grandview Arena. A late first period goal by Jocelyn Wojciehowski and an early second period marker by Cassandra Carangi spotted the Queens to a 2-0 lead. Jacqueline Desimone replied for the Thunderwolves to end the second period with the Queens ahead 2-1. Lakehead pulled out their goalie and had several chances around the Queens net but failed to get the equalizer. An empty net goal off the stick of Mackenzie Lehto with 24 seconds left sealed the win for the Queens. The Thunderwolves next exhibition game will be against the Con College Thunderhawks Sunday at 1015 AM at Tournament Center.

The Sportop Queens MAA defeated the Lakehead University Thunderwolves 2-0 at FWFN Arena in exhibition hockey on Wednesday night. After a scoreless first period the Queens opened the scoring on a goal by Lucy Newman midway through the second period. That stood up until they added an empty net goal by Hannah Armstrong as time was running out in the third.Goalies Aden Johnson of the Queens and Megan Joseph-Seeley of the Thunderwolves were solid in between the pipes. The Lakehead team now heads out for the weekend to Brandon, Manitoba to play Assiniboine College and Minot University in ACHA D2 league games.

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Womens hockey club split a pair of ACHA games in Fargo on the weekend against the North Dakota State University Bisons. The Bisons won the first game 2-0 on Saturday and the Thunderwolves rebounded with a 1-0 win in the rematch Sunday. Jacqualine Desimone had the lone goal for Lakehead and Meaghan Seeley posted the shutout. In exhibition play Tuesday night at Grandview the Thunderwolves defeated the Toppers Queens Midget A team 2-1. Taylor Grice and Azia Vass were the scorers for the Thunderwolves and the Queens goal came from the stick of Mackenzie Lehto.The Thunderwolves next ACHA league play is November 11-13 in Brandon against Assiniboine College and Minot University.

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Womens hockey club defeated the Toppers Pizza Queens Midget A team 3-1 at Grandview arena in exhibition hockey. The Queens had a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal by Caitlyn Olinski. Lakehead tied it up in the second with Azia Vass finding the back of the net.The Thunderwolves took the lead for good on a marker off the stick of Taylor Grice midway through the third and added an empty net goal from Farrah Nicholl. Megan Joseph-Seeley was solid between the pipes for Lakehead. The Thunderwolves hit the road for Fargo, N.D. this weekend for a pair of ACHA league games with North Dakota State University.

The Lakehead University Women's Hockey Team opened up their 2016-2017 ACHA D2 league play with a 7-4 loss to the Northern Michigan University Wildcats. The Thunderwolves were paced by 2 goals from Farrah Nicholl with singles from Jordyn Paris and Michelle Carlson. Jaqueline Desimone chipped in with 2 assists. The league\tournament weekend schedule has been posted! Please note that all games played during these times will count towards the overall standings in the ACHA league. The better you do, the greater the chance of making Nationals at the end of the season!.
Due to the amount of travel required for this year, we have started to put together some fundraising activities. Currently we are scheduled to volunteer at the Lakehead University Mens Hockey games on November 4th and 5th, 2016, as well as, January 5th and 6th, 2017. Please note that fundraising is a team activity and everyone is expected to show up and participate (and of course have some fun watching our Mens team play).
